Wuhan University of Technology Visits Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology, Jointly Advancing a New Chapter in International Education Cooperation
12月17日，武汉理工大学党委副书记、校长王发洲教授率国际处处长项凡、规划与学科办主任范涛、本科生院副院长周斌教授、机电学院院长吴超群教授一行5人，到访吉隆坡科技大学（以下简称“吉科大”）开展友好访问。吉科大董事局主席陈孝云教授，执行校长吴泽林教授，学术委员会主席丹斯里拿督Ghauth Jasmon教授，副校长范鸿达教授、陈志辉教授、苏拉娅教授等出席座谈会。此访旨在进一步加强两校间合作交流，探讨教育国际化发展的新路径，为中马教育交流合作注入新活力。
On December 17, a delegation led by Professor Wang Fazhou, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Wuhan University of Technology (WUT), paid a friendly visit to Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology (KLUST). The delegation included Xiang Fan, Director of the International Office; Mr. Fan Tao, Director of the Office of Planning and Discipline Development; Professor Zhou Bin, Deputy Dean of the Undergraduate School; and Professor Wu Chaoqun, Dean of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
The KLUST delegation was led by Prof. Chen Xiaoyun, Chairman of the Board; Prof. Ts. Dr. David Ngo Chek Ling, President and Vice-Chancellor; Tan Sri Dr. Ghauth Jasmon, Chairman of Academic Expert Board; Prof. Dr. Huam Hon Tat, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), and Prof. Dr. Suraya Amirrudin, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs, Culture & International Relation), among others. The visit aimed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, explore new pathways for the internationalisation of education, and inject fresh momentum into China–Malaysia education collaboration.

Prior to the meeting, the WUT delegation toured KLUST’s University Hub located at the Block 11 ground floor, the Student Hub at level 5, classrooms and other teaching facilities.
吴泽林教授代表吉科大对王发洲校长一行的到来表示热烈欢迎。他指出，大学自更名为吉隆坡科技大学以来，坚持“数字筑基、智能驱动、AI赋能”办学理念，不断深化产教融合，拓展与行业领袖的合作交流，全力打造高质量的东盟一流科技大学。目前，大学已构建涵盖28个本科专业、16个硕士专业以及10个博士专业的完备学科体系。吴泽林教授强调，两校在办学方向上存在诸多契合点，合作空间广阔，期待与武汉理工大学携手共进，共同探索教育发展的新路径。
Representing KLUST, Prof. Ts. Dr. David Ngo Chek Ling warmly welcomed Prof. Wang Fazhou and his delegation. He noted that since its rebranding as Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology, the University has upheld the educational philosophy of “Built on Digital Technology, Lifted by Intelligence, Empowered by AI”, continuously deepened industry–academia integration, and expanded collaboration with industry leaders, with the goal of building a high-quality, leading technology university in ASEAN. At present, KLUST has established a comprehensive academic structure comprising 28 undergraduate programmes, 16 master’s programmes, and 10 doctoral programmes. Prof. David Ngo emphasised that the two universities share many commonalities in their educational directions and enjoy broad prospects for cooperation. He expressed KLUST’s eagerness to work closely with Wuhan University of Technology to jointly explore new pathways for educational development.
王发洲教授详细介绍了武汉理工大学办学情况。他指出，作为中国教育部直属全国重点大学，首批列入国家“211工程”和“双一流”建设高校，武汉理工大学始终聚焦引领科技前沿、引领行业创新、引领区域发展的高素质人才的培养，此次访问交流是学校在推进教育对外开放和服务“一带一路”高质量发展的具体实践，是促进中马友好往来，实现合作共赢的务实行动。王发洲教授表示，随着中马交流日益深化，人工智能、新能源汽车等新一轮科技革命和产业变革的加速推进，高科技创新与高层次人才培养面临新的时代需求。在此背景下，武汉理工大学希望与吉科大深化国际交流，在人才培养、师生交流、科研协同等方面开展合作，更好地服务国家战略和区域经济社会发展。
Prof. Wang Fazhou provided an overview of Wuhan University of Technology. He noted that as a key national university directly under China’s Ministry of Education, and among the first institutions included in the national “Project 211” and “Double First-Class” initiatives, WUT has consistently focused on cultivating high-quality talents who lead technological frontiers, industry innovation, and regional development. He emphasised that this visit represents a concrete step in advancing the University’s opening-up in education and supporting the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as a pragmatic effort to strengthen China–Malaysia friendship and achieve mutually beneficial cooperation. Against the backdrop of deepening China–Malaysia exchanges and the accelerating new wave of technological and industrial transformation in areas such as artificial intelligence and new energy vehicles, Professor Wang highlighted the growing demand for high-tech innovation and high-level talent cultivation. In this context, WUT hopes to deepen international cooperation with KLUST in talent development, faculty and student exchanges, and collaborative research, better serving national strategies and regional socio-economic development.
陈孝云教授以《聚焦东盟，办好吉科大——打造教育出海国际合作事业共同体》为主题，全面介绍了吉科大的办学发展情况。他指出，在“一带一路”教育行动倡议指引下，吉科大秉承“合作共赢、服务地方、产教融合、东盟争先”发展定位，坚持教随产出、校企同行，打造“教育出海”新范式。通过构建“四梁八柱”育人格局，努力成为培养高素质人才的摇篮和连接中马友谊的重要纽带。他强调，深化产教融合是大学发展的核心路径，吉科大精准对接产业需求，聚焦科技创新和实验实训，强化平台搭建，吸引中东盟优质科技资源汇聚马来西亚，构建富有活力的创新产业生态。他希望双方在合作办学、人才培养及科研协同等方面探索深度合作模式，实现资源共享与优势互补，培养具有国际竞争力的精英人才。
In a keynote presentation titled “Focusing on ASEAN, Advancing KLUST: Building a Community for International Education Cooperation under the ‘Education Going Global’ Initiative”, Professor Chen Xiaoyun provided a comprehensive overview of KLUST’s development. Guided by the Belt and Road education initiative, KLUST adheres to a development approach centred on “win-win cooperation, service to local development, industry–academia integration, and ASEAN leadership”. The University follows the principle of aligning education with industry and advancing in parallel with enterprises, creating a new paradigm for “education going global”. By building a holistic talent development framework, KLUST strives to become both a cradle for high-quality talent and an important bridge for China–Malaysia friendship. Professor Chen emphasised that deepening industry–academia integration is central to the University’s development strategy. KLUST closely aligns with industry needs, focuses on technological innovation and experimental training, strengthens platform development, and attracts high-quality technological resources from China and ASEAN to Malaysia, fostering a dynamic innovation and industrial ecosystem. He expressed the hope that both institutions would explore in-depth cooperation models in joint education programmes, talent cultivation, and collaborative research, achieving resource sharing and complementary strengths to nurture elite talents with global competitiveness.
双方围绕合作办学、师生交流、科研创新等核心议题进展开深入探讨，并达成多项合作意向。在教育合作方面，两校将共建高水平联合学院，聚焦人工智能、大数据等前沿领域，采用“2+2”双校园培养模式，融合中马优质教育资源。同时建立多层次人才交流体系，包括常态化交换生项目、特色双学位课程及“一带一路”主题实践项目，加强中马学生的相互了解与友谊，促进文化的交融与传承。在科研领域，双方将共建国际科研平台，重点布局新能源材料、海洋工程、AI应用等领域。通过建立学术交流机制，构建活跃的学术共同体。相信在双方共同努力下，武汉理工大学与吉隆坡科技大学的合作必将取得丰硕成果，不仅为两校的发展带来新的机遇，也将更好服务高质量共建“一带一路”和中马命运共同体建设。
Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on key areas including joint education programmes, faculty and student exchanges, and scientific research innovation, and reached multiple cooperation intentions. In terms of educational collaboration, the two universities plan to jointly establish high-level joint institutes focusing on frontier fields such as artificial intelligence and big data, adopting a “2+2” dual-campus training model that integrates high-quality educational resources from China and Malaysia. In addition, they aim to establish a multi-tiered talent exchange system, including regular exchange programmes, distinctive dual-degree courses, and Belt and Road-themed practical projects, to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between Chinese and Malaysian students while promoting cultural exchange and heritage.
In the field of research, both parties plan to jointly build international research platforms with a focus on new energy materials, marine engineering, and AI applications. Through the establishment of academic exchange mechanisms, the two universities seek to cultivate a vibrant academic community. With joint efforts from both sides, cooperation between Wuhan University of Technology and Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology is expected to yield fruitful outcomes—bringing new opportunities for the development of both institutions while contributing to the high-quality advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative and the building of a China–Malaysia community with a shared future.

In recent days, Kuala Lumpur University of Science and Technology (KLUST) has successively welcomed several groups of distinguished guests. These included Professor Shi Qian, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Economics and Management at Tongji University; Professor Li Shuangshou, Director of the Teaching Committee of the Basic Industrial Training Center at Tsinghua University, and his delegation; Professor Li Shunxing, Secretary of the Party Committee of Minnan Normal University, and his delegation; as well as delegations led by Mr. Chen Siguang, Honorary Chairman of the Beijing Intangible Cultural Heritage Development Foundation, and Ms. Han Shuxian, Executive Dean of the Beijing Hengshan Academy.
During the discussion sessions, the delegations engaged in in-depth exchanges on key topics including joint education programmes, faculty and student exchanges, scientific research and innovation, and industry–academia integration, reaching multiple cooperation agreements.(Translation:Yiyi Chan)
